Recently, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of quality supervision has organized a supervision and spot check on stainless steel products for food produced and sold in Shanghai. A total of 100 batches of products were inspected, and 10 batches of products were unqualified. The unqualified items were: 1 batch of identification and migration of chromium and nickel exceeded the standard; 2 batches of chromium migration exceeded the standard; 7 batches of identification were unqualified.
In the process of this spot check, inspectors found that the phenomenon of excessive heavy metals still exists. In order to make stainless steel strong and durable, stable chemical properties, more acid and alkali resistant, corrosion resistant and other characteristics, heavy metal elements such as nickel and chromium must be added in the production process of stainless steel. In addition, due to the limitation of process conditions, lead, cadmium, arsenic and other elements may also be introduced in the form of impurities in the production process.
In the national standard, there are strict limits on the dissolution of lead, chromium, nickel, cadmium and arsenic in 4% acetic acid.
When stainless steel products with excessive chromium and nickel release come into contact with food, especially acidic food for a long time, heavy metal elements may migrate to food. After being ingested by human body, these elements will slowly accumulate, and when reaching a certain degree, they will cause harm to human health. For example, the discs sold in Century Lianhua supermarket and the spoons sold in Lianjia supermarket all exceeded the standard of chromium and nickel. In addition, there are 7 batches of unqualified product identification, incomplete or non-standard labeling information.
The unqualified marks are not marked "for food contact" and the type of stainless steel not marked. Nonstandard labeling will make users unable to fully understand the product information and mislead the purchase and use. Experts suggest that when consumers buy such products, they should first look at the outer packaging and pay attention to whether the products are marked with straight line standards.
