Understanding the Different Types of Bulk Bag Fillers

Machine-make by JCN, used to fill large bags with items. Bulk bag fillers are the machines used for this, and they come in a few different types. In this article, we will take a closer look at these types of bulk bag fillers and learn about their applications and mechanisms.

What Are Bulk Bag Fillers?

Bulk bag fillers are machines that fill large bags with a wide variety of products. There are many such commodities including, but not limited to, grains, chemicals, and powders. These machines employ various mechanisms to pack the items in bags. Examples of these systems are gravity, augers, and volumetric systems. The type of machine typically varies depending on the size of the bag and the type of object being bagged.

Pros and Cons of Bulk Bag Fillers

The bulk bag fillers are of different types and each type comes with its own pros and cons. Let’s examine each more closely:

Gravity Feed Fillers: The ease of operation is the major benefit of these machines. They are well-suited for filling bags with dense things, like grains, since they use gravity, a natural force. But one disadvantage is that they can be very slow. This means it can take a long time to fill the bags, and they typically take a hefty dose of manual labor to assist with the process.

Auger Fillers: These fillers differ from gravity fillers in being faster. This is a major benefit as they can fill bags faster. Since they involve less physical labor, they are more optimally productive. Using gravity alone to move product can be so tricky, but Auger fillers are great for filling bags with products such as seeds, spices, and powders. But, there is a catch: they aren't very effective at filling heavy items, such as grain.

Volumetric Fillers: Versatile are very much known for having so many things that can be handled by them. They can quickly fill bags with both heavy and light items. That kind of flexibility is a huge benefit. Volumetric fillers do require more maintenance than other types of fillers, so they need a little extra love and attention to keep them functioning well.

More About Auger Fillers

The auger fillers are specifically designed with a long screw for pushing item into the bag. This design is great for filling bags with spices, seeds, and powders that are more challenging to move through gravity. Auger fillers can also be used to fill bags with liquids as long as they are specially designed for that purpose to ensure the proper functioning.

Auger fillers are very accurate, which is one of their best features. That means they can fill bags to an exact amount, so the proper amount of product is inside each bag. That said, keep in mind that an auger filler is not the best solution for augering heavy pieces like grains, and should be avoidance if possible.
